1. In the Bedroom

This 2001 movie stars Sissy Spacek and has lots of Camden Maine landscape shots. This is a crime drama about a New England couple’s college-aged son dating an older woman who has two small children and an unwelcome ex-husband. The movie features a number of Maine locations, including Rockland, Camden, Rockport, Belfast, Owls Head, Old Orchard Beach, Trevett, and Wiscasset.

2. Forrest Gump

This famous 1994 film starring Tom Hanks has a remarkable scene filmed at the Marshal Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde Maine, a short 40-minute drive from Camden.

3. Thinner

This movie based on the Stephen King novel, is a 1996 body horror movie filmed in Camden, Appleton, Belfast, Portland, and Thomaston.

4. Casper

This 1995 comedy-drama, friendly ghost movie was said to be in Friendship Maine but was filmed in Camden and Rockport.

5. Peyton Place

Last but not least, Peyton Place. You can still hear locals calling the town Peyton Place. This is a fun movie because there are many landmarks that you will quickly recognize.

The Shotwell Drive-In

This newly created 85 car drive-in open-air theater is home to the Camden International Film Festival, also known as CIFF. Each September film industry people descend on Camden Maine to watch the newest independent movies out there. The Camden Public Library

Indoor Options

The Strom Auditorium

Located in the Camden Hills Public High School, this theater is a favorite of locals during the month of February when the Banff Film Festival comes to town.  Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival is the largest, and one of the most prestigious, mountain festivals in the world. The last year it was virtual, but we are hoping that in-person viewing will happen again in the near future.

 The Strand

This historic theater is in downtown Rockland Maine. The Camden Opera House

The Camden Opera House is home to many shows and movies. The Camden International uses this theater as one of its venues. Located in Thomaston Maine, this theater is where the current first-run, newly relased movies can be seen.
